Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust Receives Grant From Schmidt Family Foundation

The Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust (PPLT) has received a grant from the Schmidt Family Foundation to support its Indigenous Food Sovereignty Program, which serves communities in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. This award will strengthen regenerative farming skill development among tribal participants, advancing self-sufficiency while deepening cultural knowledge and awareness.
Through this funding, Narragansett Clan Chief Musquant Nompashim Netas will provide leadership for PPLT’s Indigenous Food Sovereignty Program, mentoring Bow Johnson of the Narragansetts, Chief Three Bears of the Métis and Alicia Mitchell of the Pocassets. Together, they aim to support fifty families by the end of the year through hands-on learning, cultural exchange, and regenerative food practices.
